Easter Best

The Girls in Their Easter Best

I was going to post this picture in “Crazy Style” but decided it was deserving of the front page.

This year Greg and I decided to brave the family oriented Easter service at our church, Church of the Resurrection.  Pastor Hamilton had billed this service as a more relaxed (and noisier – which should have been our clue) service that included a children’s message so we thought it would be a good experience for the girls.  They usually attend Sunday school while Greg and I enjoy the service.  It was held on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. so we got all dressed up in our Easter best and piled in the Odyssey.

When we walked in the sanctuary, they had put together some coloring pages and offered free crayons for the kids which we thought was some awesome pre-planning on their part.  The twins’ attention waned by about 10 minutes into the service despite the coloring activity, though, and we spent the next 50 minutes trying to quiet them and keep them in their seats.  Madison colored the entire time, but every time she colored even one little piece of the picture she wanted to show it to me to get my approval.  And surprisingly, none of the girls were interested in going up to the front for the children’s message.

Needless to say, I don’t remember what Pastor Hamilton’s sermon was about.  I can guess because a) I have a good imagination and a working knowledge of the Bible, and b) I have attended plenty of Easter services in my life.  But when the ordeal was over and Greg and I were sitting next to each other in the Odyssey comparing notes we agreed that we should just accept the fact that we probably won’t be enjoying an Easter service for a few more years.  His suggestion on how to keep them quiet and occupied next year:  more colors and coloring books.  Mine:  Benadryl.

Hope you all enjoyed a beautiful Easter weekend with your families.
